CLOUD 360
This camp is nestled in Kottagudi Hills near Top Station, Munnar. It is a ridge and an eco-link between the Palni Hills and Kannan Devan Hills of the High Ranges in Western Ghats near the Pambadum Shola National Park, Anamudi Shola NP and Kurunjimala Sanctury.
The major habitat type in Cloud 360 is the shola-grassland complex; found at elevations of 1,500 to 2,220 m. Shola is a stunted forest, with an upper storey of small trees. A cloud forest, also called a fog forest, is a generally tropical or subtropical evergreen montane moist forest characterized by a persistent, frequent or seasonal low-level cloud cover, usually at the canopy level. Cloud forests often exhibit an abundance of mosses covering the ground and vegetation, in which case they are also referred to as mossy forests. Mossy forests usually develop on the saddles of mountains, where moisture introduced by settling clouds is more effectively retained. Below the upper storey are a low under storey and a dense shrub layer. These shola forests are interspersed with montane grasslands, characterized by frost and fire-resistant grass species.
